I’m posting this publicly in case others are interested– I used this text generator right here!

though i do (selfishly and politely) request that if you sell and kids using this, maybe throw me a tag (@cork-fr)? i’m totally cool with other people hopping on, i just think it was a cool idea c:

Def using this and will def tag you o/

omg yes i’m gonna use this and tag too! won’t be selling any dragons with it though, but neat for tiny lore snippets!

Quick guide to making sure your sales posts show up in the search

shadowbanish-fr:

rockbreakercult:

I saw a post explaining this a week or so ago and I could’ve sworn I reblogged it to my main, but I can’t find it. But I just verified that this works and wanted to post it to the FR tag.

So, as many of you know by now, Tumblr has blocked outside links from showing up in the search. They still show up in the tags, but many people use the search instead, and you can’t check tags on mobile. But there’s a quick work-around, and that is redirect links.

You’ll need to view your blog in desktop mode and click ‘edit theme’.

Scroll to the bottom of the left sidebar and click ‘add a page’.

Select ‘Redirect’ in the drop down menu.

Decide on a url for your redirect link, then paste the link you actually want to lead to in the Redirect bar.

Now, when you go to put in a link, you just have to type in the link to your blog page, and if anyone clicks it, they’ll be lead to an outside page instead. And yes, it does show up in the search!

That said, you probably don’t want to do this for each individual dragon you sell. Consider linking to a page in your lair, or make a hatchery thread you can link to. It’s a little clunky, but at least your sales posts will show up for mobile users again!

This is so helpful!  Thank you!  :’D

As I wait to hear back from a commissioner I decided to do a little doodle of one of my dragons with their skin on. I started to to think about that post with other flights versions of the gaolers and considered the Fae. Above is a free lineart that anyone can color and use to make their own or to match a dragon with the strange fae/weird fae skinsents. I only ask that you do not use it for adoptables and use it only for FR dragons. Thanks! Also, ping me so I can see your creation!

The below lore is free to use on FR.

The Proto-Fae:

An extraterrestrial being that is barely dragon, they are truly alien and nearly feral to dragons of today’s society. But despite their looks and unknowable behavior, they posses vast knowledge and secrets of the cosmos.

They are embodiment of the unknown, and it is thought that even if one were to impart its knowledge to a normal dragon, it is but a small fragment of the wider picture that they see, so that they do not drive the dragon mad with the ethereal knowledge.

They speak every language past and present, and feed by siphoning magical energy from leylines or magical objects. It is thought that the Arcanist appeals to them and their secrets through gifts of magical energy and new knowledge. The rare dragon who know of their existance debate whether they were an actual creation of the arcanist, or an extraterrestrial guest. What is clear is that the Arcanist’s magic that they feed upon changed some of their kin into the direct ancestors of fae today.

Proto-Fae themselves think of Fae as imperfect replicas but worthy of extensive observation. Proto-Fae can ensure they keep their own shape by feeding on galactic energies that also pass through the planet. They have an aura of restrained magical power, and the feeling that they could leave anytime they want, but simply choose not to do so in the spirit of learning more about this ill-fated world.

Proto-Fae are rarely seen outside the Arcanist’s observatory, and even rarer still allow themselves to be seen by the common dragon.

Nature

maned-cerdae:

The first time it happens, you lost something small. The tip of your tail. Three of your fingers. They smile. “Oh, that’s an easy fix,” they say. When they heal you, it’s almost exactly like it was before. Sure, it feels a little stiff and you’re pretty sure it’s more like wood than flesh, but otherwise it’s fine. “See, life will always prevail” they say, and you automatically agree, more focused on the healed part than what they are saying.

The next time, it’s something bigger. An entire limb. You panic, but when they come, they smile. “Oh, that’s an easy fix,” they say. When they heal you, it’s almost exactly like it was before. Sure, you’re almost certain it’s more like wood than flesh, but otherwise it’s fine. “See, life will always prevail” they say, and you hesitantly agree.

You lose an entire wing. Blood is pouring out the wound and you’re sobbing, thinking you’re gonna bleed to death. When they come, they smile. “Oh, that’s an easy fix,” they say. When they heal you, it’s… not exactly the same. It looks like a wing. It feels like a wing. But it’s not a wing. Under the right conditions you can sort of glide, but you know your days of flying are over. It creaks when you move it, like an old worn chair. It’s more like wood than flesh. “See, life will always prevail” they say, and you say nothing. Their smiles get sharper, their eyes get harder. “See, life will always prevail” they hiss, and you stammer out yes.

It happens more and more. You lose something. They come. It’s always easy, it’s always more like wood than flesh, life will always prevail. It continues like that until-

Until the sword goes deep. It cuts straight through your stomach and you can see your organs, threatening to spill. Your life is flashing before your eyes. When they come, they smile. You’re not even surprised to see them anymore. “Oh, that’s an easy fix,” they say. The wood that covers your stomach and holds everything in makes it hard to bend over. You’re not quite as flexible as you once were. “See, life will always prevail” they say, and you agree numbly.

That spring, you throw up flower petals.

Years go past. The parts of you that are wood outnumber flesh. You don’t even care. In spring flowers grows all over your body. You don’t even try to stop it when they spill out your mouth anymore. Sap runs through your veins. You spit sweet smelling poison. It coats your teeth and floods your throat. You don’t even choke. Besides, it’s a lot easier going down than flowers are coming up.

When your skull is crushed in and not only do they heal you, you can still see, any part of you that once cared has long died.

You’ve lived longer than any dragon is supposed to. You haven’t left the Viridian Labyrinth in… gods, how many years has it been? You think you lost track about 300 years ago. Or maybe was it 400? You don’t care. It doesn’t matter anymore. You blend into the landscape because you are the landscape.

Long long ago, you asked them to show you some healing magic. They happily agreed.

You find a young dragon. They lost something small. The tip of their tail. Three of their fingers. You come to them. You smile. “Oh, that’s an easy fix,” you say. When you heal them, it’s almost exactly like it was before. Sure, you know they’ll think it’s a little stiff and you know they’ll be pretty sure it’s more wood than flesh, but you also know that otherwise they’ll think it’s fine.

“See, life will always prevail” you say, and they automatically agree, more focused on the healed part than what you are saying.

Every Rose Has Its Thorn: Clan Lore Expansion ft. Venom Rune

tangrising:

So you want to expand your lair lore because as awesome as your clan is, maybe you’re a little bored and you want to add some pizzazz to the mix.

One way to do that is to look at dragonrunes, which we can see in Runestones of the Arcanist. Today we’re covering Venom (we covered Time here), a dragonrune who has roots (haha) in both Plague and Nature flight.

But how you ask? Through research, puns, and an unhealthy dragon obsession, that’s how! *rummages for fancy-lore hat* :D!

image

So let’s define Venom first – Venom is a form of toxin secreted by an animal for the purpose of causing harm to another. Venoms adapt to their environment and victims and accordingly evolve to become maximally efficient. Consequently, venoms become specialized to an animal’s standard diet. (Wikipedia)

Venom is something creatures make for numerous reasons, two main reasons being as a defense or as a predation mechanism. Predation usually refers to the way a predator subdues or digests its prey – seeing that venom can evolve and specialize for its bearers environment, diet, and defensive needs – something that is key to this rune and the flights that are at its roots.

Let’s take a look at Nature flight first.

image

The second sentence there is the most important – dragons work in tangent with the Labyrinth and try to internalize its attributes – the dragon breed known as Wildclaws (WC for short) came from the Gladekeepers forests. They are of the “might makes right” theology, using their physical prowess to figure out hierarchies – in order to survive in the wilderness and in WC clans you must prove your hunting expertise and strength.

Wildclaws have even begun expanding into new domains, their most notable one being the Wandering Contagion. Wildclaws and Plague Flight share wildly (;D) similar beliefs. The number one rule is survival of the fittest. You must evolve and adapt to survive

(Side-Note: Wildclaws seem to be based off of the beloved Velociraptor, a family of dinosaurs people know well. Well, did you know that there is a possible venomous specimen? :O!)

Anyways – what better place to look for these similarities in Plague lore than the Wyrmwound?

image

The thing about the Wyrmwound is that while dragons do settle here, they steer clear of the wound itself. The Plaguebringer herself creates the strains she releases and no one knows for sure what they could do, but between mutation or destruction there’s not much wiggle room for niceities.

So not only is the most important place to plague dragons a cauldron of “hey try to survive this crazy soup”, it embodies their views to the T. And what are those?

image

Plague dragons are survivors, they are strong, they adapt to their environment and are the most savage of all flights. They hold wildly (haha) similar views to Wildclaws and their origin flight, Nature.

So we can come to the conclusion that while nature and plague appear different, they share a lot of the same views. Venom is the child of Plague and Nature because venoms adapt and evolve to the users environment. They are constantly evolving to ensure they are as efficient as possible against their victims, something plague can hold dear – there is always room for improvement in their eyes. Venom is used in hunting and surviving, which both flights showcase in their cultures, especially Nature and their native breed, Wildclaws (the #2 most populated area for them is in Plague territory).

Anyways, thank you for reading! If you have any lore-suggestions or questions you’d like to see here, feel free to PM me here or on FR (Tangaroa) and I’ll see what I can do!

okay but this fire apparel has me thinking.

a fire clan, mostly coatls. you move in next to them and can’t help but notice how nice their metalworking is, even though it’s all weapons and armor. enough to outfit their clan. enough to outfit five clans. but that’s fine, you think, it’s a fire clan. forging is their thing.

you have a territorial dispute. your coatl neighbors start gifting you pieces of their works – a chestplate today, a helmet tomorrow, a gauntlet the next day. enough to make a few full sets of some of the finest armor you’ve ever seen, each set equipped with at least three blades apiece. but that’s fine, you think, they’re coatls. appeasement is their thing.

one day your dispute pushes into a conflict. in an instant the friendly, accommodating coatl clan is all claws and fire magic. as you prepare to fight, a cloud of steam hisses angrily against hot metal, somewhere behind you. when you look, all of your fine armor sets are alive and there’s acrid smog oozing through the eyepieces and mixing with the steam, and lava dripping through their joints and glowing red hot on their clawtips- these coatls didn’t give you armor. they gave you automatons.

your clan is easily overwhelmed.

a few weeks later, a new clan moves in next to a fire clan, mostly coatls. they move in next to them and can’t help but notice how nice their metalworking is, even though it’s all weapons and armor. but that’s fine, they think. it’s a fire clan. forging is their thing.

oooh i love this! this is great 😀

Rough timespan of the history of Sornieth

Subject to alteration because when have I ever been consistent with lore. Mostly for my own reference, but hey, feel free to use this if you’re also having trouble with timespans. Might edit it or even make a chart later because the way I’ve kept track of the years is nonintuitive.

My math is awful and big numbers make my eyes swim, so there might be some discrepancies.

Pre-First Age + Notes

– Universe is 9 billion years (Ga) old when Sornieth begins to form.
– Sornieth is 4705 million years (Ma) old.

Bless you for making this. This really helps put my lore into context too.

hehe, no problem! it really helps when you have dragons who are old as balls/direct creations of the deities and need to figure out how old they actually are and what that means in the context of things.

Late to the game but this is awesome! Excellent job!
