A 5-hour speedpaint for @rottclaw!! A regal portrait of their dragon clan’s leader, Adam, and his creepy little living throne (who is looking a little worse for wear but is doing its best)
These are great-grandchildren of deadlanddisciple’s Decay & Luminance as well as azunara’s Mercy! All are 20kt on AH or 15kt via CR, both parents have bios
SO I absolutely LOVE the idea of breed variations and ESPECIALLY based on birth flights, so I took the Guardian and took it for a spin. I hope not many have done this before :’) But even if so, this is my ideas of what a variation for each flight would be. The colors were just for fun, the idea is that the physical variations remain consistent with what the dragon’s birth flight is, because biologically it looks really cool to have dragons with the same features in the same region while still varying in size, shape and color.
Some of the changes were purely aesthetic–Plague, having pustules/boils instead of ridges, Fire having feathers vs. hair, and Earth, my favorite variation, has stalactites of gemstones growing from their jaw. I feel like it’s something a Guardian could be proud of in Earth. Some designs simply mimicked another breed–the Shadow Guardian took from the thin fins and bat nose of the Nocturne, Plague has multiple eyes a la Mirror dragons and Arcane has many fins like the Fae. The horns were consistent, as that is one of the key features of the Guardian that I found worked with most designs.
Some of them have more than aesthetic changes–I took into account other species belonging to the region and the advantages a big fat Guardian would need to survive in harsher conditions. For example, a Fire Guardian could have many inner-ear-like openings to release heat and keep cool, Ice would have many layers of thick fur, and Wind would be leaner and thinner to accommodate for a life in the sky.
I plan to do more breeds like this! Hope you guys like!
There is no music underwater, only the sounds of water. That does not mean that water dragons do not make their own music. They make drums out of sea turtle shells and leather, and let the dripping water droplets beat the drums. This creates a melodious, echoing cascade of sounds that is amplified in enclosed spaces. Caverns are especially good for this, and submerged caves often have naturally occurring streams of water that continually drip from the ceiling.
It is not uncommon to see a dragon swimming with swathes of fishnets trailing beneath them. This is not so much for decoration as it is for functionality. Fish get caught in the net as the dragon swims, resulting in a bountiful supply of fish for the clan’s seafood-eaters.
The original names of the Eleven on FR have been a bit misconstrued over the years- while we know a few are SOLID (Xhaztol being the Arcanist is very well known) there are a few that aren’t correct- so I’ve dug around a lot, and here is the definitive list of the Eleven’s true names, since I still see people curious about them! I’ve included the 2008 names of the Deities we have as well, and yes, these are confirmed by mods. and each is a username that exists on the site!

Changed my mind about selling Styx, will still breed his parents a couple more times and breed them for the last time and hatch their final nest on the first day of RoR
